Artist Statement
Creating is my release. With my hands, I can see a world that I can call my own. My dreams and my goals become alive with my pencil, and with this discovery came my aspiration to create art that made the impossible real, tangible, free. Art silently expresses to me what is beyond life, emotion, or culture in an infinite amount of ways. It is mysterious and wonderful. I aim to create art that strikes this feeling of fascination in viewers of any culture from all across the world.
My desire to create is very thought and visual based in origin. Feelings move me to think and work differently. Anger creates stronger paint strokes, brighter drawings, while sadness creates darker themes, and more thoughtful details. I begin a piece by listening to what my wishes are, or what I admire. When I work I am reminded that art is something that will always be a part of me, that it will always be my way to connect to culture.
While going through old family albums I find drawings I've done dating back to pre-school. Each progressing year, as I flip the page my crayon and marker creations grow with me. It was simply something I've enjoyed as a child and so curiosity lead me to where I am today. Currently, I am exposed to nearly countless new elements and mediums including printing, ceramics, and collages. Painting has struck a particular interest in me as I cannot seem to do what I can in a drawing with a paintbrush.
And so I continue to develop artwork to better express the joy that I feel when creating it.
